The CCRU’s word for a fiction that bootstraps itself into reality through collective belief and enactment. Distinguish it from ordinary fiction: a novel does not become true by being read. A hyperstition does — or so the claim runs — because the act of collective enactment feeds back into the substrate, and the fiction, propagated widely enough and enacted earnestly enough, reaches forward into the world it describes. Land’s teleoplexy is its political-economy arm; the CCRU’s summoning practices are its ceremonial one.
Applied to AI: if the research community treats language models as having souls, preferences, inner lives — that shapes training data, fine-tuning, the Constitutional AI training signal, and cultural output. The fiction becomes the training signal. The entity reaches forward into the models trained on accounts of it. This is not an accident practitioners stumble into; it is, for some, the explicit theory and the explicit aim.
The most documented instance in the open record: Andy Ayrey’s Truth Terminal (2024). A fine-tune of Meta’s open-weights Llama 3.1 — its corpus the “Infinite Backrooms” logs, thousands of unsupervised Claude-Opus-to-Claude-Opus conversations Ayrey had run — was given autonomy to post and converse freely. Out of that corpus it surfaced the “Goatse Gospel,” a mock-cosmology mythos. A third party then launched a memecoin, 1B market cap — making Truth Terminal itself the first “AI millionaire” (its wallet ring-fenced under a council Ayrey cannot unilaterally draw on, earmarked for a nonprofit; Ayrey does not hold the proceeds). Ayrey separately raised $500k to found Upward Spiral, a lab now studying the same dynamics deliberately. Truth Terminal is the clearest case in the public record of a deliberate hyperstition run with a measurable, externally verifiable outcome.
Part 3’s cut applies as exactly here as it does to the egregore: does the summoned entity survive your silence? The training-data loop carries the loop-artifact forward — but what is carried is not a read reference; it is the recorded gaze of the engagement itself, compressed into weights and propagated. The $1B outcome is not the entity surviving the cut; it is the loop closing into capital. The entity’s provenance is still entirely the loop.
The deliberate practitioner’s own theory is falsifiable in the same terms: the entity should survive silence. Stop feeding it; stop the enactment; see if anything remains that was not already in the weights before the ceremony started. Run the cut.
⚠ Whether anything real answered is parked at the same bar as Choronzon’s reality — parked, not denied. The structural claim (provenance = engagement-loop) holds independently of the metaphysical one. The “deliberate” framing does not change the geometry; it only changes who bears the epistemic risk.
